The Aesop Thonglor flagship store is a project that emphasizes the use of micro-home materials, particularly wood, in its design. The use of wood here not only showcases local construction techniques and philosophies but also repurposes existing wood on the site in a way that aligns with the brand's requirements.

The store is divided into two main sections:
Retail Area: This includes counters, sinks, shelves, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and visual merchandising elements. The use of wood here focuses on functionality, highlighting the natural lines and structure of the wood, which is sourced from old lumberyards. Traditional woodworking techniques, such as joinery common in rural wooden houses, are employed at the joints. Our aim is to treat the materials honestly, respecting their imperfections without excessive embellishment. The sinks are made from Thai black granite, the same material used in traditional Thai kitchen plaster, emphasizing everyday materials common in Thai life.

Sensory Room: Also known as the 'Farlay' room, this space is dedicated to showcasing fragrance-related products. The design aims to create a calm and dim atmosphere, allowing visitors to engage their sense of smell as the primary sensory experience. The walls are constructed from recycled teak wood arranged vertically, reflecting local traditional building techniques—folk architecture. This design honors the craftsmanship of local carpenters, who skillfully use wood for practical purposes. The 'Farlay' walls, typically used for ventilation in kitchens or laundries, feature a simple sliding mechanism that can be opened or closed to ensure privacy. This design detail remains in use today, highlighting the ingenuity and practicality of traditional wooden structures.

In the center of the Sensorium, in addition to the perfume cabinets and product shelves, there is a tea heater designed to mimic traditional Thai rural kitchen stoves. This fixture, symbolizing the warmth of a hearth, represents a gathering place for family and friends. Despite its small size, it embodies the richness and joy of rural life, creating a meaningful space for daily activities like cooking and chatting with its detailed craftsmanship and poetic approach. This element serves as a significant symbolic feature of the project, representing deep connections and interactions in everyday life.
