A restaurant design that captures the warmth of time: A cozy atmosphere that allows everyone to unwind, with delicious food and joyful conversations bringing an unprecedented sense of happiness and comfort. Such memories leave an enduring warmth in our hearts, creating a lasting impression. The Korean restaurant “DEOKBOON” is just such a heartwarming place. Located on the first floor of the Mondrian Hotel in Itaewon, Seoul, “DEOKBOON” adopts “flow” as its design concept. The restaurant is composed of stages: “Introduction,” “Development,” “Climax,” “Conclusion,” and “Aftertaste,” each offering a special experience of “flow.” A distinctive feature of the restaurant is that visitors can experience different sequences depending on the stage of the flow, from the entrance, through each stage, and finally to the exit.

The story of "DEOKBOON" begins at the entrance of the village. The exterior wall, formed by walls of varying heights, evokes the image of a village gate. Light filtering through the ceiling casts a glow over the walls, while objects symbolizing the steam from freshly cooked rice create a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere.

Passing through the walls radiating warmth, you arrive at a courtyard filled with light. The warmth here is like sunlight filtering through the leaves hanging on an old tree, swaying gently in the breeze. The courtyard serves as a space for holding seminars or for visitors to wait, designed to allow guests to spend time in peaceful conversations. Additionally, the courtyard reinterprets the traditional long dining table, which has been a central element in Korean family meals, creating a unique "long table" experience exclusive to "DEOKBOON."

The next space, the main hall, represents the courtyard. The resin-filled walls, with their colorful elements, reflect the varying temperatures of each season. This feature harmoniously blends with the warmth of the live barbecue flames and the gathering of people, infusing the entire space with positive energy.

The innermost room, located just beyond the main hall, is a private space for enjoying meals. It is designed to capture the physical warmth of charcoal. White charcoal and black charcoal are two distinct types: white charcoal has a surface covered in white ash, while black charcoal is entirely black. As their names suggest, the “White Charcoal Room” and the “Black Charcoal Room” each feature different tones and styles. At the end of the corridor leading to these rooms, the wall is adorned with inkstones, and a warm object is hung to further enhance the sense of warmth within the space.

After enjoying a meal in the serene atmosphere, the joyful memories and shared warmth you experience here will leave a lasting impression in your heart. As visitors depart, they carry with them a lingering sense of elegance, marking the graceful conclusion to the story of "DEOKBOON."
