Yokosawa Campus is a studio design located on Hishide Shopping Street in Ishiwacho, Ishiwate District, Iwate Prefecture. Part of the space has been renovated into a café.

After being relocated here, the building was renovated by the owner and friends over several years. In recent years, it has been used as a co-working space by local residents. However, since it was originally a residential house, it’s difficult to see the bustling activity inside from the outside.

The owner is trying to create a new reason for people to visit by offering coffee and providing a more open gathering space for more people. Inspired by Hishide’s history, which once had many wells, the concept of a "modern well courtyard" (※1) has been realized in this project.

By utilizing the existing windows and floor plan, the cedar boards extending from the exterior to the interior walls leave visitors with a more positive and open impression.

In addition, the stepped bar counter with varying heights, originally the floors of the entrance, kitchen, and the road in front, creates a contrast with the surrounding environment, offering people of different ages opportunities to interact.

We hope that the modern "Idobata" that appears at the street corner will become a place frequently visited by local residents for years to come. (※1: "Idobata" originally referred to women chatting while drawing water or doing laundry by the well. Nowadays, it generally refers to housewives chatting during daily activities.)
